What a beautiful, quiet and picturesque location. Was asked if we wanted to be seated by the bar, dining room or outside. If I knew that it was screened in, I would have most definitely sat outside. Either way, you can’t go wrong wherever you choose and/or are seated as the place is beyond charming. Was in a rush so just had the street corn carrots, Shepherds (has lamb in it) and Shepherdess (is vegetarian) pies and all three dishes were delicious. HOWEVER regardless of your taste buds and regardless of what you are in the mood for you HAVE to order their street corn carrots. O. M. G. PHENOMENAL. EXTREMELY pleasantly surprised. A MUST try. Staff is extremely welcoming.

My boyfriend and I ate here 2 nights in a row while staying in New Paltz this weekend because it was *that* good. Every single thing we ate was genuinely fantastic. And that's coming from people who have done a lot of fine dining. The staff were wonderful and helpful. Dishes we had and loved: Stuffed Mushrooms (perfect light starter), Short Rib (heads up: it's huge), Shepards pie (he said the closest to his mom's he's ever found and his heritage is Irish), Lamb Stew (save some bread to dip), and the Short Rib pasta (amazing)

It's a traditional Irish pub and restaurant, but it's actually much more than that. If you're in the area and want a traditional/timeless/classic dining experience in a house over 200 years old with a delicate, thoughtful, innovative cuisine, and with a great selection of ales, whiskies, and bourbons then you should stop at Garvin's. We did twice in a our 3-day stay. The food is inspired, and healthy. Garvin's offers traditional Irish classic meals, but what is most notable is that the vegan and vegetarian options rival their traditional counterparts. The Irish Soda Bread is singular in its taate. The ambience is sincerely classic and warm. The venue is unparalleled. A hidden gem in the truest sense of the expression. The prices are modest making the value of your meal boastful. Pleasure to meet you Garvin. Good on you. Dave and Jen from LI.

Charming pub a little out of the way, stopped for a late lunch and had very attentive staff and a free drink for the slight wait for my food. Will definitely be coming back!

Christmas Eve dinner was absolutely out of this world! The food, service, and atmosphere were all incredible. Everything felt special from start to finish. I’m already looking forward to coming back the next time I’m in New Paltz.

So much to love about this place. The building itself is so charming! The first floor reflects the Hugenots, while the second floor is more colonial. There is a busy pub on the first floor, but I prefer sitting in one of the smaller, quieter rooms upstairs. The street corn carrots are without question the best carrots I have ever eaten. Honestly, I never knew carrots could taste so good. The leek and potato soup, scallops, and short ribs are also recommended. Service was excellent!

Garvans is quaint, cozy, and very inviting. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The star of the evening was the chef Kevin. We started with the street corn carrots. Amazing! Who knew carrots could taste so good. The short ribs were fall off the bone delicious and the Fra Diavlo special was on point and did not fall short on the seafood. We saved room for dessert and I’m glad we did. The chocolate cake was to die for and the banana Bonoffee was delicious. This place is a must try. You will not be disappointed.

After a long day hiking in the Catskill Mountains, I was in the mood for some fine dining. A quick Google search for the top restaurants in the area led me to Garvin's Gastropub, which had an impressive 4.8 rating and over 1,000 reviews — I knew I had to try it. My expectations were exceeded. The service was top-tier; my waiter, Alex, was professional and clearly well-versed in the menu. I let him choose my wine, salad, and entrée, and every choice turned out to be outstanding. The spinach salad was the best I've ever had, and the salmon was cooked perfectly, with a crispy skin and buttery interior. For dessert, I ordered a cappuccino and homemade apple pie, both of which were excellent as well. Situated on a golf course, the restaurant offers quiet, rustic indoor seating and a pleasant outdoor garden area. Hands down one of my best meals of 2026 so far.

Lovely location. Historic inn with many different cozy dining areas, each with own personality. Full bar too. I love the traditional Irish menu offerings and New American cuisine plates. Bonus - dog-friendly outdoor seating area.

We had such a great time here, starting with a very friendly conversation with Garvan himself who introduced us to the menu highlights. The porch seating was wonderful, and the food was amazing, especially the banoffee dessert! The espresso over the Guinness chocolate cake was also a pro tip. My friends and I shared all the dishes family style! Reservations on Saturday evenings are recommended but we luckily were able to walk in at 5pm!
